Naomi: “lovable, delight”
We learn about Naomi in the book of Ruth. Naomi married a man named Elimelech. They had to move from Judea to Moab because of a famine. They had two sons who married Moabite women an they also die. Naomi wants to go back to Bethlehem where she has friends and family and tells her daughters in law that they are free to go to their homes. Ruth declines and follows Naomi. When they return, Naomi goes through a period where she is bitter. Naomi allows Ruth to glean in some fields and the man who own the property is kinsman to Naomi’s husband. Ruth and Boaz marry and have a son together. Naomi cares for the child and becomes happy again. The Lord provided for Naomi.
Ruth 1:3-5 ~ And Elimelech Naomi's husband died; and she was left, and her two sons. And they took them wives of the women of Moab; the name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the other Ruth: and they dwelled there about ten years. And Mahlon and Chilion died also both of them; and the woman was left of her two sons and her husband.
Ruth 2:1-2 ~ And Naomi had a kinsman of her husband's, a mighty man of wealth, of the family of Elimelech; and his name was Boaz. And Ruth the Moabitess said unto Naomi, Let me now go to the field, and glean ears of corn after him in whose sight I shall find grace. And she said unto her, Go, my daughter.
Ruth 4:14-16 ~ nd the women said unto Naomi, Blessed be the Lord, which hath not left thee this day without a kinsman, that his name may be famous in Israel. And he shall be unto thee a restorer of thy life, and a nourisher of thine old age: for thy daughter in law, which loveth thee, which is better to thee than seven sons, hath born him. And Naomi took the child, and laid it in her bosom, and became nurse unto it.
Nicodemus: “the people is victor”
Nicodemus is mentioned three times in the gospel of John. He is a Pharisee and a member of the Sanhedrin. He first visits with Jesus one evening and asks him how he can be born again? He is confused and wonders how he can go back into his mother’s womb to be born again. Jesus explains to him that to be born again is to be born of the Spirit. Jesus goes on to give Nicodemus the greatest salvation message. We also Nicodemus in a Sanhedrin meeting where he protested against them in their plot against Jesus. We also see Nicodemus after Jesus has been crucified. He helps in preparing the body for the tomb. Did Nicodemus put his trust in Christ? We may not know now, but maybe we will see him in Heaven one day. I do hope that he became a believer.
John 3: 1-2 ~ There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.
John 7:50-51 ~ Nicodemus saith unto them, (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them,) Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth?
John 19: 39 ~ And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight.
